Tea Party

I've always said I could never date a tea drinker. A guy who will nurse a mug when down with the flu - totally fine - but in general, I like coffee men. I also like iced Americanos with anywhere from four to six shots of espresso, so I don't think many a tea drinking man would really like me, either.  That's not to say I don't almost bite off my fist with shopping urges when it comes to some teas sitting on shelves in Paris or at Dean & Deluca (ahem, Mariage Frères and the black tins!!). But now all tea purchasing urges are focused on Bellocq. Of all the amazing stuff at the New York International Gift Fair, I loved their beautiful chrome jars with yellow boxes the most. They'd be perfect to save for spices or cotton balls.

It's beautiful. And a tea shop should be beautiful. My Chinese daughter quite naturally is turning into a tea afficionado, and so we have been spending more time on tea lately.

Guess who will be carrying it in Williamsburg? I'll let you know when we have the tea event in MRC's garden.
I'm so excited.

I'd buy them for the tins alone - they hit every note.

Although I love some teas that are as strong as espresso, I'm a coffee purist. When someone tells me, "I don't drink coffee" I die a little bit.

Possibly Ms. Hovey should look into Yerba Mate drinking men. I have on good authority that we....er... they are the best. (my wife says so).

Awesome!! I am a devoted mariage freres drinker (hello Rouge Bourbon Vanille?!!) but those tins are quite swoon-worthy, it must be said.

Waiter: "Sir, how is your drink?"

Patron: "This tea is horrid... bring me the coffee."

Waiter: "Sir, that is the coffee."

Patron: "So it is. Bring me the tea."

I sadly missed the gift show this year and was dying to see pics of the Bellocq booth, as my husband & I did their business cards: http://thunderwingpress.blogspot.com/2010/08/bellocq-stock-barrel.html

So thanks so much for posting. BTW, we here at Thunderwing Press adore your blog! ~ J.B. Taylor

I am a die-hard Mariage Freres tea lover. Currently, I am in possession of 6 Bellocq tea varieties. Each and every one is pure and clean and deeply satisfying to my palette. But let me tell you, the Etoile de Linde is the crowning glory. The sight and scent made me gasp the first time I took it in. The taste? Nothing short of Heaven.

The black tins in my cupboard have been replaced with chrome and yellow.
