A couple weekends ago, the Minneapolis Badminton Club grabbed their shuttlecocks, champers - and in one case, specially-made Del Toro slippers - and set off to battle on one very big lawn for the club's third annual championship. (My grade schoolmate Johnny Whitaker commissioned those slippers and club member Marc Ratner pushed for them all to get special club cuff links).
Dave Floren and Stephanie Halvorson partner up to survey the courts.
The competition was intense...
...but former Princeton squash champ Brian Spaly and partner Lauren Patterson took home the Freeman's Cup trophy. Above: Spaly celebrates his victory with club chairman Matt Hemsley and slipper commissioner Whitaker...
...and then celebrates some more on the waters of Lake Minnetonka.
And then a fully-uniformed Whitaker kicks off his slippers long enough to jump on an old school stand-up jet ski.

This. Looks. Awesome.
Truly fantastic.
Can we be envious of your lives yet?
Kinda makes you wonder what you're doin' wrong with your own life, eh? My friends don't have boats and I'm lucky to have a MetroCard!
Spaly is a great guy. He has reat taste in art.
Ummm, yeah. His taste in art is much better than my typing.
Blaine from Pretty in Pink comes to mind for some reason.....
