Tunes | Wang Dang Doodle

Blues Queen Koko Taylor died Wednesday in Chicago at age 80 (from complications of GI bleeding; it's so sadly ironic that all of the world's top gastroenterologists were there that day). Here's to that amazing holler.

One of the best. Sadly, I never got to see her in concert.

Very sad news. I saw her perform only once, at the student lounge of Northwestern University on the downtown Chicago campus about 25 years ago. An amazing voice and a Chicago icon.

I used to dabble in catering and had the opportunity to feed Koko at a concert in Jackson Ms. It was about 15 yrs. ago. she was a bit larger in stature and seemed to like my sweet potato pudding an Jambalya. Her manager came thru the line twice for her saying "Koko would like more of this and more of that! I laughed to myself and wondered how she would be able to sing after all that food. She BELTED it out!!! She was fantastic She will be greatly missed.
