Calling All Readers!!: Windy City Advice

Huge favor for the day job, everyone.  I'm helping plan a party for 50+ people in Chicago this June, but have only visited once.  Any ideas for a great venue?  Any help would be so welcome!  Thank you so much in advance!!!

Every year I attend a party during NeoCon at the Galleria Marchetti

It's a great place, huge outdoor space with a tent. Gardens are very pretty.

If you know anyone in Chicago who is a member (to get you in) of the Casino Club it would be fantastic place to throw a party. Its a totally moody, jazz age, Art Deco Chic private club- not to be believed! Also the the Arts Club of Chicago is another fantastic private club with divine interiors that would be great for a party but specifically in the main drawing room. The Women's Athletic Club or the WAC is a total time warp like the The Colony Club in NYC and could be fun.

Can you give an idea of what the group or professional / cultural profile of your guests will be? Casino Club and Arts Club are definitely nice venues.

It will be for a bunch of gastroenterologists. The company hosting is based in Paris and makes an incredibly cool, very high tech device. They tend to like things off the beaten path - did one event on a boat and have hosted a luau on the beach, so I'm open to anything! Thank you so much.

check out A New Leaf...it's part florist and part event space. they have the most beautiful outdoor courtyard.

I second the recommendation for Galleria Marchetti. It would be a pleasant spot for an event in June and the owners are very easy to work with.

just checked out the pics of a new leaf and the red lanterns in the garden reminded me of the classic french film "the red balloon". it's destiny.

Check out NoMI- the food is beautiful and the setting couldn't be better! They will totally take care of you.

Less glitzy, but a great Chicago feel is Fultons on the River and you could organize a boat cruise with appetizers that departs from the restaurant.

Salvage One. So much more unique than the Society places.

For a more rustic space, both New Leaf and Salvage 1 are good options - If you have a larger budget and want something more sit-down, you might try Moto or Alinea - I would also suggest Schwa, but I think the space is too small for 50 people. I have also been to events hosted at Richard Wright's auction house [ http://www.wright20.com/ ] which was great. though they may not do the space for non art-world folks, it's worth a call.

In case you're still open to suggestions, I went to a great event last year at an off-the-beaten-path location: The Chicago Illuminating Company, 19 E. 21st St. http://www.chicagoilluminatingcompany.com/

i would recommend the university club of chicago, the anglophile in me is at home here. cathedral hall is other worldly. plus the view from the balconies are the famed millenium park and the art institute, the lakefront, etc..... i could get you in. take a look at their web site; www.ucco.com. other options and activities abound, love my city!
