I've just discovered your blog and I really enjoy your shopping guides. But if you don't mind a suggestion, please encourage your readers to rescue dogs and cats from their local shelters (there are purebreds available on petfinder.com, and numerous greyhounds in need of adoption if an Italian breed is wanted!). While not endangered species, these animals are definitely in need of protection and a good home too.

Also, parents might want to wait until after Christmas or Hanukkah to take home a new pet. Bringing a dog or cat to an unfamiliar place, into an excited holiday atmosphere, won't be an easy adjustment for them, or their new family. Perhaps a card to open on the holiday, with the animal's photo inside, is the best kind of anticipation.

Thank you so much, A Shelter Volunteer
